The DeeJay A Governor Dubbed “The High Priest of Soul”.JB Brown received a proclamation from
Gov. William Donald Schaefer in 1987. The proclamation not only heralded JB's years of entertainment & charity work but also dubbed him “The High Priest of Soul”!
When JB takes the microphone and says, “Let's have some good, old-fashioned fun” you are in for a listening / dancing treat!
JB's knowledge of all genres of popular music runs deep. As a teenager in Baltimore, he admired DeeJay & show performers Paul “Fat Daddy” Johnson & “Hot Rod” Hulbert. However, the DeeJays credited with launching his career were Sir Johnny O, whose protege' JB became and, his mentor, radio legend Long, Tall, Lean Lanky Larry Dean, on-air star & Program Director at WWIN.
Johnnie B became JB's on-air persona that time, JB caught the ear of Long, Tall, Lean Lanky Larry Dean, an on-air legend & Program Director at WWIN. Dean soon became JB's mentor. It was 1972. JB never looked back.
1974 was pivotal to his career. JB got to work for and know the “Godfather of Soul” himself, James Brown! For the next 5 years, he worked on the air & assumed Music Director duties on James Brown's WEBB. While on the air, JB would frequently get calls from the owner asking, “Johnnie, are you playing my new record?”
Radio is a mercurial business and change came in 1979. JB added more elements to his entertainment career. He spun records & produced shows for Baltimore area Clubs. As a Concert Emcee throughout the mid-Atlantic region, he shared stages with no less than the Drifters, the Marvelettes, Sam & Dave, and many others!
JB got a call in 1982 to join WWIN's new FM station, Magic 95.9. Johnnie B. became JB Brown. A year later, he segued to V103 (WXYV-FM) where he remained for 10 years as a star in the weekend night slot. Double digit ratings pushed his show to #1, due in no small part to 3 show segments. Baltimore listeners could not get enough of 'Countdown to Love', 'Time Tunnel', & 'Motown Monster Sweep'. The 'Countdown' addressed relationship problems and was wildly popular.
During the week, JB stayed busy with his 'Turn 'Em On Productions'. The company featured (What else?) music & a group of beautiful ladies called JB's Love Dolls. In the '90s & 2000s, JB was bringing his eclectic blend of music to the air-waves again with Oldies 1230 WITH, Oldies 97 WAMD, & 88.9 WEAA-FM.
